Who is Colt Griffith?
Colt Griffith is the chief technology officer and co-founder of AluminAiry. He is a fourth-year chemical engineering PhD student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Griffith is particularly interested in electrochemical energy storage and conversion technology with his research focusing on interfacial anode processes for power optimization of aluminum-air batteries. Before moving to Knoxville, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with an emphasis in energy studies from Clemson University.
What is AluminAiry?
AluminAiry is a Knoxville-based startup specializing in aluminum-air battery technology for electric vehicle (EV) applications. Current Li-ion batteries in EVs cause range anxiety and require long recharge times, drastically decreasing marketability. Our batteries use fully recyclable aluminum and air to produce energy. Aluminum-air batteries could potentially offer energy densities ten times higher than Li-ion batteries, doubling EV range and rivaling internal combustion engines (ICEs). Additionally, our unique recharge mechanism aims to cut recharge times by a factor of ten. Our company’s solutions address key EV limitations, which will be significant for manufacturers, current EV drivers, and potential consumers of the future.
